GENERAL
INFORMATION: The following FYI is a TECHQA from IBM LINK - IBM's
online database.
Title: 08/06/90 ENHANCED 80386 MEMORY EXPANSION OPTIONS
IN NOVELL NETWARE SERVERS.
Q: Two alternatives have been identified that support
the IBM Enhanced 80386 Memory Expansion Options (2MB
Kit j- PN 34F3077, FC 3077 and 4MB Kit - PN 34F3011,
FC 3011) installed in Novell Netware 286 Servers!
1) Use the device driver (DOSMEMDD.SYS) provided on
the Option Diskette to initialize the Enhanced
80386 Memory Expansion Option. Use of this
device driver requires that Netware 286 be run as
a nondedicated server and that the device driver
be copied to the DOS partition and included in the
CONFIG.SYS file in the DOS partition. In addition,
the @FDDF.ADF file on the Refernce Diskette must be
edited to delete the INITPROG statement. If the
INITPROG statment is not deleted and SET
CONFIGURATION is executed then the Novell Netware
286 boot record on Drive C will be destroyed!
2) Boot system from Option Diskette. A screen will
appear that instructs the user to insert the
Operating System diskette into Drive A and press
any key to continue. Remove the Option Diskette
from Drive A and press any key and the system will
boot NetWare 286 from Drive C. Again, the
@FDDF.ADF file on the Reference Diskette must be
edited to delete the INITPROG statement or execution
of SET CONFIGURATION will destroy the NetWare 286
boot record on Drive C!
In addition, please note that Novell NetWare 386 (unlike
Netware 286) is fully compatible with the IBM Enhanced 386
Memory Expansion Options without any of the above work
arounds.
